My Studio in Miniature

2022

wood, paper, 3D prints

1:12 scale diorama created for the Roanoke, VA Arts Commission “Self Portrait” gallery show in 2022-2023.

Moving to Roanoke, VA sparked my creativity and inspiration as a miniaturist. As I don't include human figures in my work, I've created a replica of my life-size studio in 1:12th scale instead. This is not an exact replica, but rather a three-dimensional collage of my work process (mess included) and iconic Roanoke locations that mean something special to me. Examples include tiny versions of the Taubman Museum, a building with the Coca-Cola sign my dad painted, and the ice rink. A full-size oil-painted self-portrait is set on an easel as if just finished. Through the window, the Roanoke Star is visible in the distance.
